SPRINGDALE, Utah — If you have plans to visit Zion National Park this weekend, you should expect it to be busy, according to park officials.

With it being Independence Day weekend, the National Park Service says to expect the following:

  • Lengthy lines at entrance stations into the park, visitor centers, restrooms, and at trailheads.
  • Time-consuming waits to get on shuttles in Springdale and Zion National Park.
  •  The park’s east and south vehicle entrance stations may have intermittent closures to cut down on road congestion.
  • Traffic congestion throughout the park and in Springdale.

“Independence Day is on a Monday this year, so we’re planning for a busy weekend,” Jeff Bradybaugh,  superintendent for the park, said in a news release. “On holiday weekends, we typically see more visitors arrive at the same time than on other busy summer days. That’s why we’re partnering with the town of Springdale to actively manage traffic and direct visitors to parking so that they can enter the park more efficiently.”

Additionally, a parade Monday in Springdale will close S.R-9 from 8:30 a.m. to noon.

When inside the park, park officials ask visitors to recreate responsibly.

  • Be patient with others.
  • Stay hydrated.
  • Check the forecast for potential flash flooding.
  • No fires of any kind are allowed inside the park.
  • Park in designated areas.
  • Take out what you take into the park.
  • Use the restroom before heading out on an adventure.
