Bicyclist killed after being struck by a vehicle in Summit County

SUMMIT COUNTY, Utah — A bicyclist was killed Thursday afternoon after being hit by a truck in Summit County.
According to the Summit County Sheriff’s Office, the incident happened on East Frontage Road (Old Highway 40) near Forestdale Road at 3:16 p.m.
Bicyclist killed
A 21-year-old man from Provo was riding electric-assisted bicycle south on Old Highway 40. Witnesses told police that the bicyclist swerved into the lanes of traffic and crossed into oncoming traffic. Police are unsure why the bicyclist traveled into the lanes of traffic.
As the bicyclist traveled into oncoming traffic, a 44-year-old male, driving a GMC truck, was unable to avoid hitting the bicyclist. Despite wearing a helmet, the bicyclist suffered severe injuries and was transported by air ambulance to a Salt Lake City hospital.
However, the man passed away from his injuries at the hospital, according to the Summit County Sheriff’s Office. The identity of the victim has not been released as family is still being notified.
The investigation into the crash is ongoing.
