SALT LAKE CITY — Salt Lake City officials are asking for public input on one of the busiest surface streets in the city — 2100 South.

The city launched an online survey for people who frequently drive 2100 South between 700 East and 1300 East in Sugar House. The survey will remain open until July 31.

The city will reconstruct that six-block stretch in 2024. But before reconstruction begins, the city wants more insight into how people use it before it decides how to proceed.

“We have a lot of different types of road users traveling to and through the Sugar House area. We must think about the best use of space for the kind of travel options people want,” said Lynn Jacobs, transportation engineer.

In the description for the online survey, the city said that the six-block section of 2100 South’s infrastructure is failing. The city also said that the reconstruction is an opportunity to change the road to serve a variety of needs.

“We want to understand how the public is traveling and what other improvements might help us keep this road moving for cars while potentially adding more space for pedestrians, bike lanes, on-street parking, or other features,” Jacobs said.

In a press release, the city said the six-block stretch of 2100 South that will be reconstructed was identified as a “major priority” in 2017. The reconstruction will be funded through Funding Our Future.

More information on the reconstruction of 2100 South can be found here.
