Fire crews safely rescue woman from house fire in Cottonwood Heights

COTTONWOOD HEIGHTS, Utah — Fire crews from Cottonwood Heights and Sandy safely rescued a woman from a structure fire Monday afternoon.

Emergency personnel received a call around 3:45 p.m. Upon arriving at the scene at 8940 South Alpen Way, fire crews noticed flames that were roughly 30 to 40 feet coming from the home. Additionally, the fire crews were also informed of a woman trapped inside the home.

In an effort to get the woman out of the structure, fire crews conducted an unprotected search. According to Ryan Love of Unified Fire, fire crews entered the structure with no hose lines, so they could rescue the woman more quickly.

According to Love, the crews were met with a wall of flames as they entered the home. However, they were able to knock down the flames with water. 

Love says the woman was isolated from the fire in a separate bedroom with the door closed. The flames didn’t reach inside the closed bedroom.

Love tells KSL NewsRadio that woman’s life was saved by having the door closed.

According to a social media post, it gave fire personnel enough time to find her and rescue her with minimal injury.

In a social media post, Unified Fire says, as a precaution, the woman was transported to a nearby hospital in good condition.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
