Suspicious package at Intermountain Layton Hospital removed, detonated

LAYTON, Utah — On Thursday, a suspicious package found by hospital security was safely detonated at the medical office building of Intermountain Layton Hospital

 

According to Layton Police, the package was discovered at around 8:30 a.m., at which time it was carried outside by security.

The Davis County Bomb Unit was called to the scene and police said that they detonated the package. Afterward, police learned that the package was not a bomb.

Police also said that no direct threat was associated with the discovery of the package and that they are not aware of any other threat to the public.

Hospital representative Erin J. Goff later provided this statement to the media:

“Hospital operations have not been impacted and is operating as normal. Out of an abundance of caution, some clinics in the medical office building have closed for the day. Medical providers will be contacting patients impacted. Otherwise, the campus is open and accessible.”

Layton Police say an investigation continues. Particularly, they are looking at surveillance images for any clues.
