Some Skyline High students released early Wednesday due to flooding

SALT LAKE CITY — Heavy rainfall that passed over Salt Lake City on Wednesday impacted classes at Skyline High School.
Flooding inside the school affected a handful of classrooms, according to Ben Horsley, spokesman for the Granite School District.
Furthermore, he says students were released 10 minutes early from school, and it wasn’t an evacuation.
In a statement to parents of Skyline High School students, Principal Mitch Nerdin wrote the following:
“Due to the intense rainfall, we had to release several of our classrooms around 2 p.m. today (Wednesday) to ensure student safety as it relates to what has become a regular occurrence with our aging and leaking roof,” the statement read.
In his statement, Nerdin said all other students were released without incident at the normal time.

Nerdin also said there was some flooding in the school’s auditorium. That caused play practice and another activity to be canceled for the day.

Both Nerdin and Horsley say they don’t expect classes on Thursday being impacted.
