Uber fires driver after crash that killed passenger

SALT LAKE CITY — Rideshare company Uber has deactivated the account of the driver involved in a crash on Wednesday. The crash with a Utah Transit Authority TRAX train killed the lone passenger.
And Uber has now responded to questions about the crash.

“Our hearts are with the rider’s loved ones during their time of mourning,” a spokesperson told KSL Newsradio.
“We have deactivated the driver, and we stand ready to assist law enforcement with their investigation.”
The crash happened on 700 S. and West Temple just before 8 a.m. Wednesday morning.

UTA spokesperson James Larson said the Uber driver was going 40 miles per hour on West Temple when they ran a red light.
Larson says the train hit the back end of the car after the driver ran the red light.
The passenger died despite the efforts of bystanders who rushed to give the victim CPR. The driver was uninjured, officials said.
Larson said the driver was cooperating with the law enforcement investigation.
