SALT LAKE CITY — Automatic emergency braking should only be used as a last resort, that’s according to AAA of Utah.

According to AAA of Utah, a new study discovered some limitations during real-world testing of automatic emergency braking technology.

It found automatic emergency braking does not prevent crashing into other vehicles at intersections when people make left-hand turns.  The brake system also only prevented rear-end collisions when the drivers were traveling between 30 and 40 mph.

Ninety-nine percent of all new vehicles require an emergency braking system.

The vice president of Mobility Innovation at AAA of Utah says the braking system is effective under certain scenarios. However, it has its limits. So, drivers should only use it as a last resort to prevent a crash.
