SALT LAKE CITY —  Utah travelers can expect to fight large crowds on both the roads and at the airport today.

The Utah Department of  Transportation (UDOT) said it is expecting many drivers during the weekend as well as people coming home from their travels.

John Gleason from UDOT told KSL NewsRadio’s Aimee Cobabe about some traffic hotspots to be aware of.

“Almost always on holidays, people will be coming back to the valley. You’ll see traffic build on US-6 along Spanish Fork Canyon,” Gleason said. “And this year we’re expecting some pretty heavy delays on I-15 near Cedar City as people are making their way up north. So, that’s something to plan a head for.”

Gleason noted that UDOT will take a break from construction during the holiday weekend to lessen congestion on roadways.

“Overall we aren’t expecting major, major delays, but we are expecting 10 to 15 minutes, and that can be an annoyance,” said Gleason.

However, there will still be some lane restrictions in place on I-80 and I-215.

What to expect at the S.L. airport

The Salt Lake International Airport is expecting tens of thousands of travelers to pass through during the weekend.

Overnight and daily parking lots have been near full. Travelers should give themselves plenty of time to park, shuttle and navigate lines.
