Suspect hospitalized after officer-involved shooting in Duchesne County

DUCHESNE COUNTY, Utah — The Duchesne County Sheriff’s Office says a suspect is in stable condition following an officer-involved shooting Monday night.
According to a news release, a deputy spotted an individual riding a pedal bike down a dark road during a heavy snowstorm just after 9 p.m.
The suspect identified as Lee Richens produced a large knife, and allegedly threatened to harm the deputy. The suspect then led the deputy on a foot chase through the town of Myton.
The chase continued into a heavily wooded area. The suspect then allegedly turned and charged toward the deputy with the knife.
The deputy fired two shots, striking the suspect. The suspect was transported to an area hospital for treatment. He was later transported to Utah Valley Hospital for surgery and is listed in stable condition.
The investigation into the Duchesne County shooting is ongoing and is being conducted by the Utah State Bureau of Investigations.
