NAPLES, Utah — All schools in the Uintah School District will start two hours late on Tuesday morning.

The district made the announcement Monday afternoon ahead of additional snow that is expected in eastern Utah over the next 12 to 24 hours.

The district says the late start will allow for all state, county and city roads to be plowed, making them safer for students and teachers to get to school.

The district’s late start protocol includes the following:

  • All schedules to start two hours later than the normal starting time. This includes schedules for those employed by the district.
  • Buses will arrive at their scheduled bus stops two hours later than normal. For example, if a bus is scheduled to pick-up at 6:40 a.m., the pick-up becomes 8:40 a.m.
  • Central Cove Preschool and half-day kindergarten are canceled for the day. Full-day kindergarten, however, will still be held.
  • School breakfast will be available as a grab-and-go meal in the classroom.
  • The conclusion of the school day will be at the usual time in the afternoon.

However, the district says if weather conditions worsen, the two-hour late start could be changed to a cancelation of the entire school day. A makeup day will not be needed, if online learning is possible during a school closure.

The Uintah School District also says any updates will be posted to the district’s Facebook page. Additionally, the district says it will call, text and email families should any additional changes to the school day be necessary.
