SB 151 would exempt certain businesses from farmer’s market regulations

SALT LAKE CITY — A bill making its way through the Utah legislative session this year wants to promote Utah’s extremely small businesses.  Namely, child-owned lemonade stands.

S.B. 151 Food Preparation Amendments, proposed by Sen. Jacob Anderegg, R-Lehi, would exempt child-owned businesses like lemonade stands from laws that regulate farmers markets.

Specifically, under S.B.151, minor producers and operators would not be legally required to tell consumers that their food is not officially licensed by the state.

Anderegg said one goal is to help children learn the principles of self-sufficiency. Others include fostering an entrepreneurial spirit, Anderegg said, and teaching them real-life lessons about how to turn a profit.

The bill received unanimous recommendation from the Senate Business and Labor Committee and will be heard by the full senate.
