SALT LAKE CITY — As the numbers of attendees continue to grow, Salt Lake Community College administration says there is more to offer than affordable tuition.

According to Salote Halatoa, Assistant Admissions Director at SLCC, 50% of SLCC students are first-generation college students.

“Our students are what make our college so great,” said Halatoa.

The financial incentive is undeniable.  For a full year at SLCC, as a full-time student, tuition is just over $4,000 annually.

“Our students save a lot of money starting with us,” said Halatoa. However, she said there are other selling points.

When asked her pitch for the community college route, Halatoa told KSL NewsRadio’s Dave and Dujanovic that SLCC is a good start for many people.

“No matter what your end goal is, our college is the really smart start.”

Students get the same quality education for half the price and with smaller class sizes. “You get that really intimate community at our college,” she said.

Transferability and accessibility are also key factors according to Halatoa. SLCC has articulation agreements with all of the four-year universities in Utah, making transferring credits simple.

Additionally, with campuses across Salt Lake Valley, classrooms are increasingly accessible for students.

Other examples of accessibility are SLCC’s wide range of financial aid. “We have tons of scholarships from academic, to diversity scholarships, leadership scholarships, athletic scholarships, the list goes on and on,” said Halatoa.

Listen to Assistant Admissions Director at SLCC, Salote Halatoa, discuss the benefits of the college.
