SALT LAKE CITY — Utah Gov. Spencer Cox announced the appointment of Brig. Gen. Daniel Boyack to adjutant general of the Utah National Guard. The appointment is effective immediately.

Boyack’s appointment comes after Maj. Gen. Michael Turley was placed on leave last week. Over the weekend, Turley decided to step down as adjutant general and retire from the Utah National Guard

“Brig. Gen. Boyack is a fine example of military training, discipline, and leadership, and I’m grateful for his willingness to take on this new responsibility,” Cox said in a news release.  “I have every confidence that he will serve Utahns and his fellow Guardsmen and women admirably. We appreciate Gen. Turley’s many years of service to our state and nation and wish him well.”

Most recently, Boyack has served as commander and assistant adjutant general for the Utah Air National Guard.

In this compacity, Boyack oversaw the programs and operations of plans that impacted more than 1,400 Utah Air National Guard personnel.

Boyack began his service with the Utah Air National Guard in 1994. He has a bachelor’s degree from Excelsior College in New York. He has also earned a master’s degree in organizational leadership from Argosy University.
