SALT LAKE CITY — If you are an Amazon employee who has been on the job at least 90 days and are thinking about attending Utah Valley University, you may be eligible for free tuition.

Amazon Career Choice has chosen to partner with UVU for students seeking certificates and bachelor’s degrees.

Wade Oliver, director of the Amazon UVU Program, told KSL NewsRadio that the program, which has just started at UVU, is open to full-time and part-time Amazon workers.

He added it’s not a reimbursement arrangement where the students pay upfront and is refunded later. The university works with the company to pay tuition, books and fees.

“We work with them and they send that money right over to us,” Oliver said.

He added the university has more than 200 degrees to choose from, 40 online degrees or a mixture of both face-to-face instruction and cyber-learning.

Oliver said the student does not have to choose a degree that is related to Amazon’s business; he or she can select any degree UVU offers.

Once the student-employee has been on the job for 90 days at Amazon, they are no longer required to stay at the company.

“Amazon employees can leave the company whenever they want. They lose the benefit, of course. After that there won’t be any more money paid for them, but it’s very flexible,” Oliver said.

Full-time Amazon workers are covered at a cost of $5,250 per year. Part-time employees for half of that, $2,625, for tuition, books and fees.
