WEST BOUNTIFUL, Utah — The man accused of shooting and killing another man in the Lowe’s parking lot in West Bountiful Friday has been booked into jail for investigation of murder.

In the affidavit, the West Bountiful police said they were called to the scene of the murder at 350 N. 545 W. just after 5 a.m. They were called by a woman who said the suspect, Jake Jackson, 31, was her estranged husband.

The woman explained to police that she had met with the victim, Zachary Carson, as he was helping her with divorce paperwork. She said she had been separated from her husband for about a year.

The woman said Carson had dropped her off at her vehicle in the parking lot when she saw Jackson walking towards them.

An argument ensued between the three of them. The woman told police that Jackson was upset she was there with Carson and pulled out a handgun. The woman tried to get between the men but said Jackson grabbed her and pushed her onto her vehicle.

Police confirmed in the affidavit that the woman had bruises on her arm and a mark on her back, allegedly from this assault.

The woman said Carson, who remained in his driver’s seat, told Jackson he “couldn’t treat her like that.” Jackson then shot him several times in his vehicle.

From there, the woman claimed Jackson turned the gun on her and told her to “take him to his son.” She said she got in her car and locked the passenger door, driving away as Jackson pounded on the door and window to be let in.

Police noted in their statement that the woman’s passenger side door handle had been broken.

The affidavit also reveals investigators confirmed the conflict through video footage captured by Lowe’s.

After obtaining a warrant for the woman’s car, police found a tracking device she believed was placed there by Jackson.

Jackson had fled the parking lot before police arrived. He was later located on Highway 191 south of Moab later that afternoon where he surrendered to police.
