SALT LAKE CITY — New refinements are being announced for the Kimball Junction road project in Park City.

To improve traffic flow along I-80 and State Road 224, the Utah Department of Transportation has narrowed down 30 ideas to two alternative plans: One involves a split-diamond interchange and the other adds double turn lanes along with pedestrian improvements.

The project would address multiple issues according to UDOT, including:

  • traffic congestion on the I-80 on- and off-ramps,
  • pedestrian safety, and
  • bicyclist safety.

UDOT Project Manager Becky Stromness said one of the plans includes a split-diamond interchange at the I-80 and SR-224 junction (an example of which can be seen below.)

“So we’re taking the basic conceptual ideas and performing engineering work because now we have survey and other data that we can apply engineering standards to,” she said.

UDOT is seeking public comment on its most recent report, which can be found on the Kimball Junction UDOT website
