A new name and a new beginning for Camp Steiner

HANNA, Utah — The Boy Scouts of America won’t be using Camp Steiner anymore, but that doesn’t mean the wilderness area is going away.
The camp in the Uinta Mountains will be reimagined and reopened by another company.
Shad Stevens with Sunrock High Adventure Base Camp said the camp is in a special place and they hope to continue its legacy.
“The stories that we have heard from scouts!” Stevens said. “For years and years, they have been impacted up there. It’s a special place.”
Indeed, it’s a historic place. Some of the original buildings are listed on Utah’s historic registry.
The Boy Scouts of America used Camp Steiner for almost 100 years. But the organization didn’t renew its lease this year.
Stevens said they’ve had a lot of comments on their social media pages from people who’ve enjoyed Camp Steiner over the years.
Those who’d like to go now will find more than a name change. Stevens said all kinds of groups, including families, can now book campsites.
“Our goal is to make this camp available to as many people as we can. We believe that there is power in spending time up there.”
