Smaller counties in Utah see higher voter turnout ahead of Election Day

SALT LAKE CITY — In her latest voter turnout announcement, Lt. Gov. Deidre Henderson said just under half of eligible Utah voters had cast their ballots as of early afternoon on Monday.
The latest numbers from Utah election officials show some of the state’s smallest counties have the biggest voter turnout.
In Grand, Piute, Garfield and Rich Counties, over 60% of eligible voters have cast their ballots.

Meanwhile, the lieutenant governor’s office said Salt Lake and Utah Counties are sitting in the 40th percentile.
“I think sometimes, where they’re a little more rural, they’re a little more [accustomed] to turning those ballots in earlier,” said state Elections Director Ryan Cowley, who also said he’s expecting a good turnout on Election Day.
“It’s hard to say whether people turn out in person or not. Obviously, we think a good number will do that. But I think a lot of people will bring in their by-mail ballots as well, and drop that in the drop box.”
Per Utah election law, ballots must be postmarked by today, Monday, Nov. 4, — the day before Election Day.
In a post on her X account, Henderson said that, at this point, it’s better to use a drop box.
