WEST VALLEY CITY — Two apartment units have been deemed uninhabitable after a car crashed through a basement apartment off of 3100 S. and 2200 W.
Battalion Chief Nick Dodge with West Valley City Fire Department said the car crashed into the apartment at 6 p.m. on Friday night.
“Whoever the occupant was of the car had ran away prior to anybodies arrival,” Dodge said. “So we’re unsure if (the car) was attempted to be stolen.”

Dodge said the person who lived in that basement apartment had just moved in and was not home at the time of the crash. However, a building inspector was concerned about structural damage in the apartment, leading to that unit and the one above it being uninhabitable at the moment.
Dodge said Red Cross responded to the scene to help the people living in those two units, and the apartment complex is helping by getting those occupants into new units for the time being.
The car that crashed into the apartment has been removed by a tow truck. According to Dodge, getting the car out of the apartment was a tricky situation because it was near some gas and power meters.
No injuries were reported at the scene of this incident, according to Dodge.
