“Shannon Garner goes above & beyond to help her students. She creates & follow ups with her special education students on IEP plans, I know personally how she uses her prep time to follow up & meets with student that are struggling. She works side by side with her students & helps motivates them to do their assignments. Mrs. Garner makes things fun & enjoyable and when something isn’t working, she creates a new plan. She spends her own time to help students & parents alike. Mrs. Garner compiled a list of clubs that the school was offering, that her students would be interested in and got them involved, one student in particular, it was his first club experience. Many times it is the first time a student gets involved in high school activities. Mrs. Garner attended parent meetings at Columbus Connects to learn about services that are offered to share with her parents & students. Some of her students have been able to participate in the Columbus Connects Pre-employment transition services for youth in Utah with disabilities because she took the time to bring that information back to them and they saw, because of her it was a great opportunity to follow through with. She looks for opportunities to help her seniors get jobs, & career opportunities. Mrs. Garner deserves a gold star recognition for all the great things she does.”
