Utah, don’t put your winter coat away yet, more valley snow is probable

SALT LAKE CITY — Portions of Utah may be looking at 80-degree temperatures this week, but meteorologists say that winter isn’t done with us yet.
KSL Chief Meteorologist Kevin Eubank said the chances are high that we’ll have a few more snowstorms this spring.
“During the month of April, we still average here in Salt Lake City about 3 inches of snowfall,” Eubank said. He said the proof is in the records.
“The records, show about 24 inches of snow during that month back in 1974 and again in 1984. Even into the month of May, we average about a tenth of an inch of snow. The records have us in the 6 to 7 inch range and those go back to the 1970s,” he said.
Odds are on more snow
The chance that Utah will receive measurable snowfall in April and May is as high as 80%.
“The odds would say we’re not going to get huge snowfall during those months. But getting more measurable snow, yes, that’s probably still in the cards,” he said.
“And the good news is when those spring storms come, the snow falls fast and it melts even faster.”
As of Tuesday afternoon, the forecast calls for a chance of showers toward the end of the week, with a storm possible on the last day of March.
