Dump truck driver arrested after hit-and-run causes power outages in Draper

SALT LAKE CITY — The driver of a dump truck is under arrest after police said they were involved in a hit-and-run accident Wednesday afternoon. The accident caused power outages in Draper.
According to the Draper Police Department, the accident happened at 12300 South and 800 East at approximately 1:30 p.m.

The dump truck’s lift was raised and hit a traffic signal. Police said that brought down three power poles and caused the power outage.
At approximately 3:30 p.m., police were notified that traffic signals between 265 West and 700 East in Draper were without power.
According to Draper PD’s Lt. Mike Elkins, the power was restored Wednesday night.
Roads along 12300 South from 700 East to 900 East are temporarily closed.
Police ask drivers to avoid the area until further notice, to use extreme caution, and to watch for signal outages at nearby intersections.
