1 killed by officer gunfire during police search, sheriff says

OREM — One person died Monday night after shots were fired by officers during a police search in Orem, according to the Utah County Sheriff’s Office.
At approximately 11:30 p.m., the Major Crimes Task Force served a search warrant near 800 East and 400 North.
“During the service of the search warrant, shots were fired, and a suspect was injured,” the sheriff’s office said.
Officers attempted life-saving measures. Paramedics then took over the effort, but the suspect died at the scene, according to the sheriff’s office.
The name of the suspect was not immediately provided. Additionally, officers did not disclose the reason for the search warrant, or say what possible crimes the person was believed to have committed.
Neighbor reacts
Residents in the Orem neighborhood where police fatally shot a man on Monday night say they were surprised to see something like this happen so close to home.
Bob Ross, who lives in the area learned what happened last night when his son came home to police lights and a road closure next to their house.
“I mean, obviously (I felt) surprised cuz we really do feel safe,” said Ross. “It is a great neighborhood. Lots of families and lots of good neighbors. Everybody looks out for each other, so it was really surprising.”
