Man charged with aggravated assault after allegedly pulling knife on rideshare service driver

SALT LAKE CITY — A man was charged Saturday night after he allegedly pulled a pocket knife on a rideshare service driver, according to the Salt Lake City Police Department.
According to the booking affidavit, 37-year-old Steven Franklin Mealy became intoxicated and was later able to obtain a ride from a rideshare service.
The affidavit stated that during the ride, Mealy pulled out a pocket knife and pointed the blade towards the driver’s neck.
Police said Mealy ordered the driver to stop the vehicle and began having an outburst.
Mealy would allegedly use the pocket knife to shatter the back passenger side window.
After Mealy got out of the vehicle, the SLCPD said they were able to locate him less than a block away, where the driver could identify him.
Mealy was transported to the Salt Lake County Jail and was booked on charges of aggravated assault and public intoxication.
