Update: The City of Draper announced Friday that the boil order had been lifted just before 5 p.m.

“After extensive cleaning and flushing of the area of concern highlighted in blue, we collected 20 follow-up samples throughout the potentially affected area on June 5, 2025. All samples were absent of coliform and E. coli bacteria,” the city said.

The previous story follows:

DRAPER — On Thursday, Draper City residents received a boil order from the Utah Division of Drinking Water for contaminated drinking water.

According to WaterPro, one of the water utilities serving Draper, a cross-connection between the secondary and culinary water systems has been discovered, allowing untreated water to enter the system for drinking water.

In response, WaterPro sent a notification of the possible contamination to the drinking water system to approximately 1,300 customers in Draper.

The company advised city officials to instate a boil order to all affected costumers until further notice. The company also provided a map of potentially affected areas.

Since the discovery the company has disconnected the systems and crews are currently in the process of flushing out the untreated water.

What should you do?

Residents in the affected area should use bottled water or boil their tap water for at least one minute and let it cool before using. Any water used for drinking, for pets or people, or things adjacent ice, brushing teeth, washing dishes, food preparation, showering, or in baby formula, should be boiled to kill any bacteria.

WaterPro also warned residents to discard all stored water from the last 24 hours to avoid any chance of contamination.

What is the risk?

The untreated secondary water may contain various parasites, Chemical contaminants, bacteria and viruses, such as E. coli and Hepatitis A.

If any untreated water that isn’t boiled gets into a persons system it can cause diarrhea, vomiting and  flu-like symptoms. Young children and those with weakened immune systems are at higher risk for more severe symptoms and illness.
