Former and current Utah Jazz owners pay tribute to Frank Layden

SALT LAKE CITY — Frank Layden died on Wednesday at 93. Now, many are sharing their condolences and memories of the former Jazz coach.
In a statement, the Utah Jazz said he is remembered as an iconic figure who led the team to its first five playoff and as a coach who brought humor and lightheartedness to the team. The team also took to social media saying, “There will never be another like him.”
Frank Layden made a lasting impact on the Jazz, the state of Utah, and the NBA. There will never be another like him.

The team’s current owners, Ryan and Ashley Smith released a statement saying Layden was known for his enthusiasm, commitment and humor.
“His impact on Utah extended far beyond the court thanks to his generosity and community outreach efforts that made such a difference in people’s lives.”
Smith also posted to X, adding, “The NBA lost a legend today.”
The Miller family released a statement praising Layden as a foundational part of the Utah Jazz, and a pillar in the community. The family shared memories of him spending the night at the ballpark with the Salt Lake Bees, and leading the crowd in song during the 7th inning.
“He was a dear friend and remarkable partner,” the statement read.
Layden served in multiple positions with the Utah Jazz over two decades including general manager, head coach and president. Layden received several awards throughout his life recognizing him for his coaching and outstanding community service.
