SALT LAKE CITY — The Beulah Fire in the High Uintas has remained at 4,341 acres since Thursday, according to a news release provided by the U.S. Forest Service.

According to the forest service, a total of 606 personnel are working on the fire, which is now 28% complete.

“Completion speaks to the amount (percent) of objectives completed and more accurately captures and reports the specific amount of work accomplished on the ground to manage fire spread and reduce the negative impacts to communities, infrastructure, and other identified values,” the forest service stated.

According to the forest service, of the 606 personnel assigned to the fire, nearly 500 are firefighters and personnel who are on the ground working in the field.

Weather conditions

“Helicopters were busy yesterday until midafternoon when aviation resources were grounded due to the weather,” the news release said.

According to the forest service, the fire received 0.05 inches of rain on Friday and thunderstorms are expected to continue throughout the weekend.

“Higher humidity and steady cloud cover will continue to help moderate fire behavior,” the forest service said.

Closures

According to the forest service, the Uinta-Wasatch-Cache National Forest has closed some districts, campgrounds and trails near the fire. These closures were activated on Aug. 10 and could continue until Sept. 30 or longer.

“Crews continue protection measures on the ground building primary and secondary containment lines, utilizing heavy equipment to remove dead and dry vegetation, and scouting areas where it may be safe to engage the fire closer to the active fire’s edge,” the news release said. “Structure preparation is set to begin today at the Bear River Ranger Station. Assessment efforts are ongoing in Manorlands, Uintalands, and Monviso.”

For evacuation alerts and other notices related to the fire, people can sign up for the Summit County emergency alerts.

The cause of the Beulah Fire is still under investigation.
