PROVO — Voters at the Utah County Health & Justice Building in Provo said they’re showing up because decisions being made locally affect their lives every day.

Lifelong voter Rob Daniels, 65, said he’s voted since age 18.

“What I hate is people complaining about something and never coming to try and change things,” he said.

Nearby, parent Chelsea said that recent changes in school‐district governance prompted her to act.

“Just with our school district getting a new school district coming, we wanted our kids … basically us as parents have a say for our kids,” she said.

The forthcoming split of the Alpine School District into smaller districts — including one tentatively called Timpanogos School District — is scheduled to take effect in 2027.

And longtime voter Caleb offered this insight:

“The people in your city council, the people in your state legislature, they’re making the decisions about your property taxes, your water, your electricity, your sales tax, and what happens to the roads and just those things that really do affect you on an everyday scale… We have a say… who we choose and who we want to represent us as a community.”

Their comments reflect a strong theme in Utah’s 2025 municipal election cycle: local leadership matters. Voters here emphasize that mayoral, city council and school board decisions are not distant, they’re personal.

In this election, polls across Utah close at 8 p.m. on Election Day, and voters were reminded to use drop boxes or in-person voting centers. According to the Utah County Elections website, ballots must be in the county clerk’s office by 8 p.m. to count.

Ongoing legislative changes aim to shift Utah’s automatic mail-ballot system over the coming years, but for now, the message to voters remains: be heard where it matters.

We want to hear from you.
