Questions remain as Alpine School District prepares to split in three

SALT LAKE CITY — Following the decision to split Alpine School District into three, some issues could impact the alignment of the new districts.
The district’s Director of Communications Rich Stowell said there’s an upcoming vote on potentially closing two schools. The vote could also change some programs in the Orem area.
“Next Tuesday, the 17, the board will vote on that one way or the other,” Stowell said.
Parents, students, and teachers are wondering what’s next.
“In the next several months, the county will create precincts for new school boards,” Stowell said.
If the schools remain open, they could influence the new district some schools will be part of. Each district needs to have a relatively equal number of elementary schools.
Stowell also said community members need to be active in the school board election because those elected officials will be making very big decisions when it comes to what happens in those three new districts.
He said the new school board will work out “everything that has to do with school boundaries and programs.”
Those elections are in November 2025.
