Dave Portnoy gives bonus food review before BYU’s Big 12 championship game

ARLINGTON, TX — Dave Portnoy is BYU football’s biggest ally in the national media.
The Barstool Sports founder and analyst on FOX’s Big Noon Kickoff has not hidden his thoughts on why BYU should be in the College Football Playoff.

When the CFP Committee kept BYU at No. 11 in the rankings, Portnoy turned to social media, put together a video, and donned a Bear Bachmeier jersey to explain why the committee was wrong to rank the Cougars there.
That’s why, these days, Dave Portnoy is simply known as “Provo Dave.”
On Friday, one day before No. 11 BYU takes on No. 4 Texas Tech in the Big 12 Championship Game, Portnoy gave a “bonus food review.”
The review was of CRUMBL’s Chocolate Chip cookie.
On the heels of BYU football head coach Kalani Sitake signing a “long-term” contract extension that cemented Sitake as BYU’s head coach of the future.
“Okay, real quick, New York City, bonus CRUMBL review; $5.50 for a cookie? Now, I know how we afforded Kalani, boys,” Portnoy said laughingly.
He then laid out why BYU should be in the College Football Playoff over Notre Dame.
“Here’s what Provo Dave does: we eat! We eat sugar, we eat CRUMBL cookies, we pay $5 for it, and we support the cause.”
Then he took a bite into the CRUMBL cookie and gave a 9.8 rating.
All while doing this review in New York City, Portnoy was sporting a BYU hat and a new “Provo Dave” t-shirt that’s available on the Barstool Sports website.
“Provo Dave” is a BYU football fan
The origins of “Provo Dave” date back to when Portnoy visited Provo the weekend of the BYU-Utah game in October.
When Sitake was considering the Penn State job, Portnoy went on X and wrote his experience in Provo and why Sitake needed to stay with the Cougars.
“I arrived in Provo as a young man with [Big Noon Kickoff] not knowing what to expect,” Portnoy said on X. “I was overwhelmed with all the love I received from Cougar Nation. From Cosmo to Kalani it was all love. From the ice cream to the dirty soda to the weird guy at the pizza shop it was all love. Coach Sitake danced his way into my heart. There is no place like Provo and Provo can’t exist without BYU football. And BYU football can’t exist without Kalani. And neither can #ProvoDave. Stay Kalani Stay!”
