Police find 35 dogs in Ogden home, shelter says they’re in good condition

SALT LAKE CITY — The Weber County Animal Services is trying to find homes for 33 dogs that were discovered at a single home in Ogden.

Lt. John Cox with the Ogden City Police Department said officers happened upon the dogs on Thursday.

“One of our other bureaus was serving a search warrant for evidence in an unrelated event. When they got there, they found 11 adult dogs and 24 puppies,” Cox said.

In Ogden, Cox said, residents are only allowed to have two adult dogs.

“They talked to the owner and the renter. Those two decided which two dogs they would like to keep, and they signed the rest over to the shelter,” he said.

Siri Main, division director of Weber County Animal Services, said the pups arrived at the facility in good condition. They were in good health and had no noted injuries when they arrived. At first, some were shy or had behavioral issues, but they’ve warmed up.

“We have some that are currently in our foster care system, we have some that are still in shelter, and they’re available for adoption,” she said. “So, (they’re in) various stages, but they’re all doing really, really great.”

Main said the ages range from 7-week-old puppies to adult dogs, and they seem to be of mixed breeds. Weber County Animal Services is asking for the community’s help as it provides for, fosters and adopts out the pups.
