UDOT advises drivers to plan for nightly one-way traffic in Provo Canyon

SALT LAKE CITY — The Utah Department of Transportation will limit sections of U.S. Route 189 in Provo Canyon to one-way alternating traffic beginning Monday night and extending to Saturday.
Drivers are advised to plan ahead for the nightly traffic pattern change, occurring nightly between 10 p.m. and 6 a.m. between the Island Beach Day Use Area and 3600 South in Charleston.
The work is part of the US-189 Improved Project, which will widen US-189 in upper Provo Canyon to two lanes in each direction.

The temporary traffic pattern is in place to allow dump trucks hauling gravel for the foundation of the state Route 113 realignment to safely enter and exit the highway.
A pilot car will bring vehicles along the route from Feb 23-28, adding delays of up to 15 minutes.
Crews will also wrap up recent rounds of controlled blasting used to carve sections of the mountain away to create more room for the US-189 Improved Project.
Since January, US-189 closed each morning between Main Canyon Road in Wallsburg and the SR-113 intersection in Charleston. UDOT announced those closures would likely continue through February but remained subject to change due to weather.
