OGDEN, UT — The Utah Division of Wildlife Resources and Conservation is looking for information about a buck deer left on I-80 near Evanston. The agency said the animal had been shot and left to wither away.

The buck deer was found on Nov. 24th  on the Wasatch Exit off I-80 in Wyoming.

The DWR said it appeared the deer had been dropped off on the private property, and that a piece of metal covered half of the animal’s body.

On Nov. 26th the incident was reported to officers. Officials believe the parties responsible were trying to hide the deer.

Later, officials determined the deer had been killed with a rifle and decapitated, leaving the remaining meat to rot.

People living in the area had reportedly seen a large deer in the area prior to the incident, but it is unknown if it was the deer found deceased.

If you have information about this deer, or any similar poaching crimes in the state of Utah you are asked to contact the DWR-UTip Hotline at 800-662-3337. You may also report poachers via the web.

Or you can text the DWR at 847411

For this case, please contact Officer Brandon Olson at  801-541-3906 with information. Officials will support requests to remain anonymous and rewards are being offered.

Last year conservation officers investigated over 1,000 criminal animal deaths totaling $387,000.
