Officers are once again warning of the dangers of excessive speeds on Utah roads.

Utah County sheriff’s Sgt. Spencer Cannon said he spotted a couple of riders on bullet bikes speeding past him at 115 mph on Monday along the Timpanogos Highway near Lehi.

Cannon said he chose not to pursue them, since that would be against department policy for a speeding violation. But he posted a video on Facebook talking about the danger of riding motorcycles at excessive speeds.

Bikers exceed 100 mph speeds on Utah roads

“I could see them further ahead than they were, and they were passing cars on the right. I didn’t get them on radar then, but they looked like they were going at least as fast and maybe faster than when I got ’em on radar at 115,” Cannon says in the video.

Cannon emphasized the danger of riding on an urban highway at that speed. He said it’s likely a rider would be killed if a car pulled in front of their bike or if they hit anything else at that speed.

“The helmet would only let them have an open-casket funeral,” he said.

In the video, Cannon showed the radar display in his patrol vehicle, with the speed at 115 mph.

“I wish I knew who they were so that I could go knock on their door and impound their motorcycles, but I don’t,” Cannon said would like to know if the two riders brag about getting away from the cops on Timpanogos Highway.
