Lehi City set to break ground on new fiber network

LEHI, Utah- Officials with Lehi City say they are set to break ground on a new network they hope will bring better internet connection speeds and a variety of providers to residents.
“[Residents] will have access to a number of different internet service providers on the same network…on a network that is built and owned by the city, ” said Lehi Assistant City Administrator Cameron Boyle.
Boyle said the network will not only give people options, but provide better connection and speeds, with up to a gig of service in homes.
“There are parts of the city where service isn’t as reliable, so, this would make it available to all of our residents, ” Boyle said.
The service will be available to all residents with up to 5 different companies to choose from, though Boyle said they are still working to finalize agreements to determine which companies those will be.
“[The network] makes it more competitive so that [people] have more than one option…and that should improve the quality of service that [people] get,” Boyle said.
According to the city, construction is set to take place over the next few years, with the groundbreaking scheduled for Tuesday September 6.
Lehi residents can preregister for the service if they are interested in having access to the fiber network where they live.
