Poll: Utahns divided over coming end to statewide mask mandate

SALT LAKE CITY — When it comes to how they feel about the end of a statewide mask mandate in Utah starting Saturday, Utahns appear to be divided, at least according to a new poll.

The Deseret News/Hinckley Institute of Politics poll found 44% of Utahns believe the mask mandate should stay in place beyond this weekend. Another 20% agreed with the April 10 date to end the mandate, while 14% felt the mask mandate should have ended sooner. About 17% of respondents said the mandate should never have been in place.
Independent pollster Scott Rasmussen conducted the poll for the Deseret News and the Hinckley Institute of Politics over April 6-8. They surveyed 610 registered Utah voters. The poll carries a margin of error of 4 percentage points.
Lawmakers voted earlier this year to end the statewide mandate on Saturday, April 10, making the mandate’s demise a matter of state law. Private businesses may still require customers and employees to wear masks, and Salt Lake City’s mayor announced a mask mandate would remain in place inside the city limits.
