SALT LAKE CITY — The DMV will be bringing back registration renewal reminder postcards starting this month.

The Utah State Tax Commission announced on Monday that the State Legislature has approved funding to reinstate the postcards, which ended in September of last year.

In February, the House moved to accept HB 170 which would allow for the state to once again fund the postcards. During discussions, House Speaker Brad Wilson shared a picture of his own license plate on his truck showing his tags had expired in November.

“I dispatched my intern, and lo and behold, my truck registration had expired in November, and I didn’t even know about it,” Wilson, R-Kaysville, told reporters later in the day. “It’s something that is kind of hard to admit, but occasionally we make a mistake and we have to eat some crow.”

Email’s still available

The Tax Commission, which runs the DMV said they still encourage residents to opt in to an email notification at dmv.utah.gov, but that by doing so, would mean no postcard would be sent. They said the electronic reminders help tax dollars go further and protect the environment.

If you want a postcard reminder from the DMV they said to ensure that they get delivered to the right address Utahns should check that their physical address is updated at dmv.utah.gov
