SALT LAKE CITY — Utah Gov. Spencer Cox has declared May 5, 2022 as a day of prayer in Utah.

“Prayer can give us guidance, protection, and purpose,” said Gov. Cox via Twitter. In the proclamation, the governor noted the long history of the National Day of Prayer in America and it’s establishment by the First Continental Congress in 1775.

President Russell M. Nelson of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints also marked the National Day of Prayer on Thursday.  With a message on his Instagram account, President Nelson spoke of the value of prayer, and how it may impact family, school, and the workplace.

In part, Nelson’s message encouraged introspection on the power of prayer, and how it can be a catalyst to inspire others.

Sen. Mike Lee tweeted a prayer from George Washington written in June, 1783.
