SALT LAKE CITY — Halloween is on a Monday this year but there will be several festive activities Utah locals can choose from this weekend too.

Many activities across the state offer options for scares, family fun, and everything in between.

In for a scare

Haunted houses across the state have been open all month, and there’s still time to enjoy them before they close for the season.

Fear Factory in Salt Lake City is located at a fitting address, 666 West 800 South. Opened in 2011, Fear Factory is made up of six buildings that used to be the site of a cement factory.

It’s open this Saturday from 7 p.m. to 12 a.m. and Sunday from 7 p.m. to 11 p.m. Tickets range from $36.99 to $249 depending on the type.

Nightmare on 13th might be one of Salt Lake City’s most recognizable haunted houses, having been open since 1990. The haunted house creates new themes each Halloween for Utahns to enjoy.

Just like Fear Factory, it’s open this Saturday from 7 p.m. to 12 a.m. and Sunday from 7 p.m. to 11 p.m. Tickets range from $33.95 to $69.95 depending on the type.

Like Nightmare on 13th, the Haunted Forest has also been operating since 1990. The forest features outdoor trails that lead visitors through swamps, mine shafts, and dungeons.

The Haunted Forest is open Saturday from 7:30 p.m. to 12 p.m. and is closed on Sunday. Tickets range from $30 to $50 depending on the type.

Kid-friendly Halloween activities in Utah

Utah’s Lagoon theme park carves out a special place for Frightmares each year. The park has multiple Halloween activities suitable for families, including a straw maze, trick-or-treat trail, and spooky walk-through.

The park is open on Saturday from 10 a.m.to 11 p.m. and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Regular park tickets are $84.95, $75.95 for those over 65 and $66.95 for anyone under 48 inches tall. Frightmare ticket add-ons are also available for additional costs.

The Loveland Living Planet Aquarium’s Halloween on the High Seas is an outdoor experience. Families can trick-or-treat, see pirates and mermaids and play carnival games.

Halloween on the High Seas is open Saturday and Sunday from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. Tickets are $14.95 for adults, $11.95 for teens, $9.95 for kids ages 3 to 12, and free for kids under 3.

CLAS Ropes Course in Provo, Utah offers a Halloween cruise for people of all ages. A 20- to 25-minute boat ride features over 100 hand-carved pumpkins.

The cruise is open on Saturday from 6:30 p.m. to 9:45 p.m. Tickets are $10 on weekends and $2 for any children under 2.

Free admission

For anyone wanting some wallet-friendly activities, homes across the state have been decorated to the nines.

Pleasant Grove created a map of its “Haunted Grove,” which features homes in the area. Visitors can drive or walk past the homes to take in the view.

Taylor Manor in Bountiful, Utah boasts 170 tombstones along with animatronics and props. It’s located at 1240 Golf Course Circle. It’s open from dusk until around 9:30 p.m. While it’s free of charge, the owners of the home, Matthew and Nancy Taylor, take donations via Venmo or cash to donate to Friends of Community Cats.

In Daybreak, Utah, Cindy Chia decorated her “Encanto casita” in honor of her daughter, who dislikes houses with scary decorations. The house is located lakefront in Daybreak by the West Bridge.
