Riverton Jazz Band honors founders and celebrates 20 year anniversary

RIVERTON, Utah — The Riverton Jazz Band is celebrating its 20-year anniversary this weekend. In addition to its anniversary celebration, the band will be honoring its three main founders.
Jay Rindlisbacher, Terry Andersen, and Preston Lloyd officially organized the band back in 2004.
The three men played in the band and supported it through many years.
“We wanted to make sure and honor them before too much time passes,” says Kerrie Neu, President of the Riverton Jazz Band.
The Riverton Jazz Band began as a branch of the Riverton Metropolitan Orchestra. Rindlisbacher was the president of the orchestra and created the band to give the brass musicians more playing time.
Now, the band has 19 main musicians with several substitutes and plays for weddings, festivals, parties, and more.
The musician’s ages range from 70 years old to 20 years, but they all work together in perfect harmony.
“We strive to be the best that we can, but we also just enjoy being together and sharing music,” says Neu.
A celebratory concert will be held this Saturday, April 29th at 7 p.m. at the Sandra Lloyd Performing Arts Center Auditorium. Admission is free for the public.
It will include honors given by the mayor to the three founders, favorite songs by each of the directors, pictures of the band through the years, alumni performances, and lots of jazz.
