Roy police: Child found safe after misunderstanding led to kidnapping investigation

ROY, Utah — Roy City Police Department said the child involved in a possible kidnapping incident has been found safe.
In a recent press release from the RCPD, investigation into the incident revealed that there was no abduction or criminal activity.
The press release stated that the witness account was not accurate as the child and their parent were both located.
“This misunderstanding did cause concern within our community,” the RCPD said. “We want to thank our citizen for their outreach and assistance.”

In a press release from the RCPD, the incident happened in the area of 2500 W. 4950 S.
Police said a witness reported seeing a black SUV with anime stickers pulled up to a boy walking on the sidewalk.
The male suspect allegedly talked to the boy before forcing him inside the SUV and leaving the area, according to the RCPD.
Police said the boy looks to be 12-13 years old, wearing a red shirt and jeans. The male suspect was reported to be a heavy set 30 years old with a beard, wearing a black shirt, black pants, and possibly a black baseball cap.
