Taylorsville police chase ends with suspect crashing into another car

TAYLORSVILLE — A theft investigation resulted in a man fleeing from police, running a red light, and crashing into another car Wednesday evening.

Sgt. Jacob Palmer with the Taylorsville Police Department told KSL that a detective was investigating a theft when he located the suspect in a white Dodge Ram in Salt Lake City.

Palmer said the detective attempted a traffic stop on the Ram, but the driver fled. Police did not pursue the Ram and lost sight of it.

Taylorsville police detectives in unmarked police vehicles searched the area and eventually found the Ram in a parking lot. Palmer said they requested assistance from the Department of Public Safety helicopter to follow the Ram.

The Ram eventually left the parking lot, and Taylorsville police were able to spike the truck’s tires at 700 W. 900 South in another attempt to stop the suspect.

 

Palmer said the Ram continued to flee from police and detectives did not pursue the suspect.

While fleeing, the Ram ran a red light on 900 S. Main Street and crashed into another car. The suspect’s truck was put on its side and hit the front of a Utah Transit Authority bus.

Palmer said the Ram’s driver and his female passenger were transported to the hospital with minor injuries. The bystanders who were involved in the crash were also transported to the hospital for evaluation.

The man will be booked into the Salt Lake County Jail after being cleared by the hospital.
