PROVO, Utah — A new report from the National Transportation Safety Board detailed the plane crash in Utah Lake that killed two people in September.
An investigation by the NTSB found that a single-engine plane, piloted by 44-year-old Michael Cox, was approaching the runway at the Provo Airport when Cox was told by air traffic control that another plane was still on the runway.
Airport surveillance video shows Cox’s plane coming within 200 feet of the other on the airstrip. Then, it veered to the right.
Utah Lake plane crash preceded by stall
The report found that this quick right turn caused the airplane to stall. It then crashed into Utah Lake, resting in about 9 feet of water.
Both Cox and his passenger, 46-year-old Mark Johnson, were killed in the crash. Their bodies were submerged in the water for more than 12 hours.
