SALT LAKE CITY — April 15 is Tax Day. For DIY tax-filers hoping to save some money, there are several options available online to file taxes for free.

How to file federal taxes for free

The Internal Revenue Service offers several free filing options through its IRS Free File program. The program is in partnership with the Free File Alliance.

The program features eight partners that the IRS works with to allow taxpayers to e-file:

Each partner has different requirements for eligibility. Visit the IRS Free File page to find which works best for you.

How to file Utah state taxes for free

While several websites allow taxpayers to file federal returns for free, they often charge a fee for state returns.

However, the state of Utah offers a free online filing system called the Taxpayer Access Point.

Users can file returns, make payments and check their refund status. The site also offers several resources to taxpayers.
