PROVO, Utah — Utah County has experienced remarkable growth in the past decade with 32 % growth from 2010 to 2021.  The airport is no different. Experiencing unprecedented growth, Provo Municipal Airport (PVU) services three commercial Airlines and is Utah’s second busiest airport.

“When Mayor [Michelle] Kaufusi took office, as mayor’s normally do they are looking through master plans and plans for growth. She asked an important question, ‘what’s magically going to happen in 20 years that can’t happen today?'” said Provo Municipal Airport Director Brian Torgerson.

The answer came from a $65 million evolution that transformed the airport from how Torgerson described as a, “one room facility,” where the, “baggage claim was in a carport outside,” to a “brand new terminal facility,” introduced in July of 2022.

The airport has flight operated by major commercial airlines, including Allegiant Airlines, a long-standing partner since 2013, and Breeze Airways, an Utah-based company that commenced operations in 2022. The newest addition to PVU is American Airlines, that is set to launch flights to Dallas-Fort Worth and Phoenix starting October 2024.

The airport boasts nearly 20 locations with nonstop or connecting flights across the country. From California to Connecticut and Portland to Orlando.

With Utah counties rapidly expanding growth, the airport in Provo is what KSL’s Debbie Dujanovic calls, “delightful and relaxing.”
