SALT LAKE CITY — Generation Z or Gen Z (people born between 1997 and 2012) look to TikTok for career advice.

According to Edubirdie, 70% of people in Gen Z turn to the social media platform for career guidance. Edubirdie said 20% consider it their primary source for career advice.

It’s the short-form content on the platform that attracts Gen Z, as they look for insight into career selection, salary negotiation, and getting their first job.

The survey also found that nearly 50% of Gen Z said TikTok influenced their choice of profession and has benefitted their careers.

Edubirdie also examined whether the platform is seen as an accurate source of information and education.

According to many in Gen Z, it is — 57% of those surveyed said TikTok is an effective learning tool.

And it’s effective for a specific group of people, the 65% who consider themselves visual learners. The short videos that TikTok is known for can help visual learners retain concepts they may encounter in more traditional ways in school settings.
