MAGNA, Utah — The Magna Police Department is investigating an alleged kidnapping Sunday.
According to a press release, MPD received a call from the victim who was in the same car as the suspect, AP. Police could hear AP threatening to shoot officers and the victim as she was reporting being kidnapped by AP.
Following this, officers located the vehicle and AP fled. They chased AP from Magna to Provo where he was eventually caught, according to the press release.
In an interview with police, the victim said she and AP had previously been in a consensual relationship. She told police that the two of them had been drinking together. AP lured her into his car saying he would drive her home, according to the victim. She said she knew AP shouldn’t be driving but felt pressured to get in the vehicle.
When she got into the car, AP “immediately” locked the doors, drove away from the victim’s house and got onto the freeway. The victim said she told AP multiple times to let her out of the car but he did not. At the same time, she said, AP was threatening to shoot her.
Following the police chase to Provo, AP pulled the car over and the victim was able to get out of the car. AP continued to flee from police.
According to police, after being apprehended, AP admitted to driving under the influence while the victim was in the car. Additionally, he admitted to fleeing from the police. He denied kidnapping the victim, according to the press release. He said he was taking her home, despite driving away from her house in Magna.
