Police cancel Amber Alert issued for 2 children out of Riverdale, suspect arrested

SALT LAKE CITY — The Riverdale Police Department has canceled an Amber Alert that was issued for two young children who were believed to be in danger. Riverdale police said the children went missing under suspicious circumstances following a fatal fire Monday.

On Monday evening, Chief Casey Warren with Riverdale police said the children were located and taken to safety with family. The children’s father, Ricardo Rojel Trujillo, 29, was taken into custody for questioning.

Warren said the investigation began with a fatal fire on Monday in the area of 5100 S 1050 West.

A woman, who was later identified as the children’s mother, was found dead at the scene. Investigators said her death was suspicious.

Responding officers attempted to locate her children, a 2-year-old girl and 4-year-old boy, and her partner, but nobody else was found amidst the rubble.

Amber Alert

Due to the suspicious circumstances of the death and the missing children, police decided to issue an Amber Alert, and began searching for Trujillo, according to the Amber Alert website.

Police distributed Trujillo’s physical description: A man 5 feet 5 inches and 180 pounds, with black hair and black eyes.

Officials also released the description of a truck he may have been driving: A white Ford F150 with license plate 8BSC6, a logo on the back that possibly reads “ANV,” and a phone number on the tailgate.

The children were located approximately 4 hours after the amber alert was issued, just before 8:30 p.m.
