SALT LAKE CITY — American Fork Police and Pleasant Grove Police said they apprehended a suspect safely after officers fired their weapons, which then led to a vehicle pursuit.
Authorities identified the suspect as 41-year-old Matthew Jay Bryan. Police officers were dispatched to an area in American Fork near 500 East and 300 North at 1:30 p.m. for a car with substantial damage. They recognized the vehicle based on a description of a stolen car from the Pleasant Grove Police Department.
Officers said Bryan was non-compliant and that, eventually, they fired their weapons. The suspect then fled in his car and police pursued him until he crashed into a car in Lehi at 700 North and 700 East.
After a foot pursuit, officers arrested Bryan. Then, he was hospitalized as a precaution.
In a statement, American Fork Police said that Bryan has a criminal history that includes violent offenses. Bryan was listed as a fugitive of the U.S. Marshals Office for a weapons charge. He had a warrant out for his arrest.
An investigation is being conducted by the Utah County Officer-Involved Critical Incident Protocol Team. The department said this is standard protocol after these types of cases.
